Social Networking

Facebook

Facebook live:  a live streaming video channel that is intended to keep Facebook users updated to what is happening on the social networking site. The service, powered by Livestream, will feature videos from Facebook staff members and celebrity interviews, but not designed for Facebook users to showcase their own videos. All the content shown on Facebook Live will have some tie-in with Facebook products, features, or how people are using the site. Facebook said this is not an opening to get them into the video distribution space. The first official guest was the leading actress in the television series 'Ugly Betty'.

Chat:
In 2008 Facebook Chat was released to the entire Facebook user base. Users are only able to chat with their Facebook friends and on a one-to-one basis, although a user may chat with multiple friends simultaneously through separate chat interfaces. This is an instant messaging service with messages being sent to and from users within seconds, it is a cheap way to talk to people across the world costly nothing but the internet access. Unlike comments or 'writing on walls' you can only talk to youre facebook friends who are online at the same time as you are.

Events:
Facebook events are a way for members to let friends know about upcoming events in their community and to organize social gatherings. Events require an event name, network, host name, event type, start time, location, and a guest list of friends invited. Events can be Public or Private. Private events cannot be found in searches and are by invitation only. People who have not been invited cannot view Private event description, Wall, or photos. They also will not see any Feed stories about the event. This is a great way to send paperless invites for example parties, charity events etc, it can be a quick way to organise things by simply entering the information, spelling mistakes can be edited repeatidly unlike on paper where a new invite may have to be used or crossing out which may look untidy. On the otherhand a few people may find this a problem as many people do not actually have facebook, or some may only log on at a certain time, so the event invite may not reach them and they may miss out.

Phone app:

Many new phones offer access to Facebook via applications or 'apps'. This is a more compact, simplified version of the actual site. It is used by millions of people a day as it is very convenient to up date your account whilst you're out and away from computer access. It may use up some of the MB of internet that phone services provide on phone contracts but is otherwise costing the same as going onto any other site on the internet. It has the same features of the main sight including the newsfeed (stream of statuses and posts from your facebook friends, events, groups and profile pages etc.
