Blogs Research - Lesson 1

1)Definition of blog:
to read, write or edit a shared on-line journal.

2) Why do people use blogs?
Blogs are different to normal sites as blogs you can interact with people much more than you can do on a website, blogs allow you to also "post written text, audio and video and have it online within minutes, unlike normal traditional static websites."

3)What are the advantages and disadvantages of a blog?
One advantage of blogs is the freedom of speech, the blogger can post anything from interests to expressing how theyre feeling.
Another is that it can be used as a diary, where daily extracts can be posted.
They can also be used to share knowledge between both the blogger and the readers.
Friends can be made online via blogs.
One disadvantage is maintainance, if the blogger does not constantly update posts they have loose followers/readers. One more disadvantage is that 'most people don’t have very much to say that’s interesting,', the readers may also become irritated by the grammer and spelling as the post may not be clear and easy to read.

4)Find 3 interesting news stories about blogs and how they affected peoples' lives.
Kevin Pietersen- The cricketer wrote on his twitter social networking page how annoyed he was after being dropped from the england squad and swearing. This lead to a heavy fine and loosing many followers on twitter.
Blogs on Twitter have caused response time of faster critical effect on cinema blockbusters such as the Harry Potter Films and Burno, therefore effecting the numbers of cinema goers and subsequently loss of revenue. This is reported on Reuters.
Alan Carr- The comedian was repremanded after tweeting about Lily Allen not attending his Tv chat show. He used bad language and showed disrespect towards her leading to him loosing many followers and fans.

5)How are comments useful on a blog?
Comments help both the blogger and reader. The blogger themselves get feedback that can help for future posts, the feedback may also give the blogger more ideas for future posts.
